Foreign exchange market

The foreign exchange market (currency, forex, or FX) is where currency trading takes place. It is where banks and other official institutions facilitate the buying and selling of foreign currencies. [1]FX transactions typically involve one party purchasing a quantity of one currency in exchange for paying a quantity of another. The foreign exchange market that we see today started evolving during the 1970s when worldover countries gradually switched to floating exchange rate from their erstwhile exchange rate regime, which remained fixed as per the Bretton Woods system till 1971.

Presently, the FX market is one of the largest and most liquid financial markets in the world, and includes trading between large banks, central banks, currency speculators, corporations, governments, and other institutions. The average daily volume in the global foreign exchange and related markets is continuously growing. Traditional daily turnover was reported to be over US$3.2 trillion in April 2007 by the Bank for International Settlements.[2] Since then, the market has continued to grow. According to Euromoney's annual FX Poll, volumes grew a further 41% between 2007 and 2008
he interbank market caters for both the majority of commercial turnover and large amounts of speculative trading every day. A large bank may trade billions of dollars daily. Some of this trading is undertaken on behalf of customers, but much is conducted by proprietary desks, trading for the bank's own account.

Until recently, foreign exchange brokers did large amounts of business, facilitating interbank trading and matching anonymous counterparts for small fees. Today, however, much of this business has moved on to more efficient electronic systems. The broker squawk box lets traders listen in on ongoing interbank trading and is heard in most trading rooms, but turnover is noticeably smaller than just a few years ago.

2009 Yamaha FZ1 In India

India Yamaha Motors is going to launch the second set on superbike sections. As Honda already revealed CBR1000RR Fireblade & CB1000R superbikes in India now it’s time for Yamaha to show its toughness.

Yamaha India will launch the FZ1 a street motorcycle which is well competes with Suzuki Bandit and Kawasaki Z1000S in the overseas market.

This naked bike will get the R1 headlamp layout, sculpted fuel tank and two-piece seat creates the most aggressive profile a naked bike can have.

Yamaha FZ1’s R1-based engine packs a mighty mid-range punch and that cast aluminium frame cuts its way through the curves like a supersport bike, so whatever’s street you are always in charge.

Yamaha FZ1 will get a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, forward-inclined parallel 4-cylinder, DOHC motor displaces 999cc and pumps out 150PS of maximum power and 109Nm of peak torque.

2009 Yamaha FZ1 rolls out with an additional ABS.

Yamaha is believed to have sent the FZ1 for homologation in India. If Yamaha brings the FZ1 as SKD (Semi Knocked Down) kit instead of CKD, it would undercut the price of Honda CB1000R which is the cheapest imported litre-class bike.

Suzuki GSR 150cc

After the Yamaha its now suzuki turn to make bike enthusiast cheer. Suzuki will soon launch an 150cc bike with a six speed transmission. Excited ! stick to the floor, unlike the R15, Suzuki’s lanza will be a commuter bike. Ya, Suzuki is following a different strategy, as every manufacturer move towards sportiness, the former TVS partner wish to tap the buyers whose first preference are the ergonomics, performance and fuel economy / mileage. Suzuki’s lanza 150cc will be the only bike to sport toe and heel gear lever other than pulsar in the 150cc segment.

The lanza 150cc boast a bikini fairing with a wolf eyed headlamp similar to the pulsar. The pilot lamps are mounted on each side which increases the aura of the lanza. However the most striking features in the lanza is its muscular fuel tank. The handlebar comes with weight on both sides which might be borrowed from the Suzuki’s 125cc zeus. The cockpit will be a digital one with a LCD console. The rear cowl is big and features a LED tail lamp cluster.Lanza features a disc brake at the front and drum brake at the rear.

Bajaj used to facelift its product every 12 or 18 months but a facelift for pulsar is due. It seems like Bajaj has forgotten its job and with lanza Suzuki has done it instead of Bajaj. But it’s hard to blame the pulsar except for its troublesome gearbox and inconsistent engine performance. Suzuki might do magic with its ultra reliable engine and butter smooth six speed transmission.

2009 Bajaj Pulsar 150 & 180 Upgrade Pictures

Well it seems that Bajaj has been displaying the upgraded Pulsar 150 and upgraded Pulsar 180 at a few dealerships in Pune. The upgraded Pulsar 200 and 2009 Pulsar 220 will be launched later. We found few pics of the 2009 Edition Pulsars on a popular social networking site and xbhp. Bajaj seems to have mixed and matched alot of stuff among the Pulsars siblings.

As part of 2009 pulsar series, Bajaj will launch a new upgraded version of pulsar 150cc. The changes are cosmetic and it comes with the same 150cc engine. The new pulsar gets tank scoops borrowed from the pulsar 200cc and all black theme. Also the headlight now gets power directly from the battery.

Yamaha FZ-S launched

India Yamaha Motor has launched the Yamaha FZ-S, a stylish version of the Yamaha FZ16, on March 2, 2009. The Yamaha FZ-S will cost Rs 67,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).

The original Yamaha FZ-16 has been extremely popular in Indian ever since its launch, winning awards, bringing bikers flocking to Yamaha showrooms, and yes, to DWS Auto India flooding us with queries and requests for more information. The new Yamaha FZ-S will likely do the same - if you thought the FZ-16 was uber-cool, your brain would explode out of sheer desire when you see the FZ-S!

The Yamaha FZ-S, just to be clear, is really not a new bike. It is a stylish interpretation of the hot-selling Yamaha FZ-16 with some minor modds to the headlight and some new colours and graphics. The specifications remain the same as that of the Yamaha FZ-16. But it looks different enough, and even more muscular and macho, than the FZ-16 motorcycle.

The Yamaha FZ-S will come in two colors, Yellow Streak and Silver Tech. The macho 150cc bike will have new graphics, sharper aerodynamic windshield, sporty carbon pattern meter console, and an aggressive headlight. The color scheme of the FZ-S holds really well t0gether as you can see from the photo we have here.

If you want to see what the Yamaha boffins have to say about the new FZ-6, here is what Y. Tsuji, CEO and Managing Director, India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. has said, “Speaking about Yamaha’s focus and the new launch, Y. Tsuji, CEO and Managing Director, India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. said, “Yamaha has set forward on a journey where each and every product of ours will set a benchmark in the market with its technological superiority, quality and manufacturing excellence and style quotient. The arrival of this new variant FZ-S is a clear illustration of how the market has responded to FZ 16.”

Ignore all that. The new Yamaha FZ-S does not need no corporate-speak to sell, as you can see.

If there is a bike that single-handedly turn around the Indian two-wheeler segment in 2009, it is gonna be the FZ-S. Just kneel down and pray to it, guys.

Yamaha’s street-racer YZF R15 too has been selling well - but that’s a bike that appeals to a smaller number of biking enthusiasts. The FZ-16, and now the FZ-S is for those who rule the street corner and college approach roads.

The company has seen a surge in sales in January 2009 compared to the same period in 2008. In February 2009, India Yamaha Motor sold 15,033 units in February 2009 compared to the 5746 units it sold in February 2008, scoring 162 per cent growth in sales.

IYM currently has over 400 dealers and its product portfolio includes MT01, YZF-R1, FZ16, YZF-R15, Gladiator Type SS and RS, Gladiator Graffiti, G5, Alba and Crux.

HERO HONDA HUNK

Today morning I went to the nearest Hero Honda showroom and I got myself a test ride of the new Hero Honda Hunk. Hunk is a 150 cc bike from Hero Honda and costs Rs.55000 (ex-showroom). It has a self start and kick start model.

How does it look?

I was really astonished by the great looks of the Hero Honda Hunk. Stylish and majestic are the first words that anyone would utter from their mouths on the first looks of Hunk. The side skirts (called shoulders by Hero Honda) in the tank is the most noticeable feature of the bike. It is sharp and curved which gives a really good muscular and sporty look. In my opinion it looks better than Pulsar, CBZ or any other bike in the 150 cc range.

The butterfly like head light design looks like the head light of Karizma but, it is slighly smaller in size. While riding the bike I felt that that the doom is slightly smaller compared to the size of the tank, but this does not affect its external appearance.

The alloy wheels look great. Nowadays alloy wheels have become the standard in every bike in the premium segment. The tail portion of the bike looks unique and some may like and some may not.

How does it perform?

When I took the bile out for the test ride, the first thing that I noticed was the responsiveness of the throttle. It is very sensitive and the engine responds even for the slightest twist. Even though it is just 150 cc, the pickup is quite good in comparison to other bikes. The bike does not vibrate until the speeds of 80 kmph, but after that it becomes a little unstable. For Indian riding conditions, most of the time we would be driving the bike only around 60 kmph!

Hunk boasts a 5 speed gear box with the usual 1 down, 4 up gear shift pattern. The clutch is smooth and gears can be shifted with the slightest effort in the foot. The front wheel has a 240 mm disc break and rear wheel has a 130 mm drum breaks. In my opinion it gives enough safety for Indian road conditions.

How does it feel?

The cushioned seats are very comfortable and in my opinion you can use this bike for long distance travel. The handle bar positions and foot rests are ergonomically designed to keep your body comfortable as much as possible.

Hero Honda Hunk is most suited for youngsters, especially college students. The front seat is separated from the back seat by a step and hence it makes a bad choice for a family man to buy it (when he needs to have 2 kids and 1 wife in the same bike!).

How does it stand out?

The bike claims to have a ‘big bike feel’ which is the most sought after feature in the Indian bikes today. It boasts of puncture resistant tires for tough riding. Many bikes feature ‘gas reservoir suspension’ nowadays and the Hero Honda Hunk is no exception! Gas reservoir suspension claims to give a ’smoother’ ride. Hunk features tumbleflow induction technology which combines air and fuel to give a surge of adrenaline pumping pickup. The bike comes in red, blue, black and silver.
